Petrol prices are keeping low at the
moment, but not for long I reckon. I
suppose petrol will eventually run out altogether. Not in my time perhaps, but
the money to pay for it certainly might! Some modern cars are being converted
to this gas stuff, but the tank fills half the boot - that’s if you have a
boot. My car was built in the days when luggage etc came on behind in the
Austin, with the servants.

On the other hand, why should we try to conserve petrol, just for some
other fellah to use it? And what is
money for if not to make life enjoyable? Some of my chums enjoy shooting and in
total it costs them the equivalent of several gallons of petrol every time they
pull the trigger! I never wanted to
stand on a draughty wet hillside waiting for a terrified bird to present itself
for slaughter. If I have to kill them, I would rather they ran under my wheels
as I roared along some country lane!
“ ‘tis only in their dreams that men truly be free, 'twas always thus,
and always thus will be “ - as Keating used to say. Well “carpe diem” as my old Latin master would
put it - seize the day. Wince at the pay
desk, but smile on the open road.
